Concert Summary

If you closely study Zappa's body of recorded work (which ran from 1965 to 1993), you'll see a remarkable progression that continually blended innovation, experimentation, humor, and among the best musicianship to ever emerge from the world of rock 'n' roll. His live shows (both with the early and mid-period Mothers of Invention and later as a solo artist) are not as perfect as his recorded albums, but are just as satisfying.

Taken from the archives of Fillmore founder and promoter, Bill Graham, this is the first of a multiple-night stand Zappa and his early '70s version of the…entire summary

My college roommate in '66 had "Freak Out!" in his LP collection - 'out-hipping' me with my copy of "East-West", but I leaned into "You Didn't Try To Call Me", "Brain Police" & "Wowie Zowie" before picking "Absolutely Free" when it was released the following summer. It's been 40 years since I've listened to these tracks and live versions jam and preview 'jazz-rock'. Duke's Fender Rhodes is delightful. WV is a treasure trove.

I've been a FZ fan since I first heard his music as
a junior in high school in 1970. God, he was a crazy
music genius then;and today his music stands up to the test of time! I'm glad Frank's son is continuing the
    Zappa legacy.

Wow!!!!! Yeah 1971!! Saw This band at the New Haven Arena on October 18th...! Chuck Berry opened.... Frank's comment was, " does this (guitar) look like a hockey stick?"

Zappa is awesome!!! The thing is, Zappa's music is very musically complex, but the lyrics are a bit odd, especially his erlier stuff with the Mothers of Invention. But, still, this set is awesome!!! I wish Inca Roads was on it, though.
