Concert Summary

Other than his appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival later this same month, this Tanglewood performance was possibly the largest audience that Miles Davis had encountered up to this point. His extraordinary band, containing many soon to be legendary musicians, was all deeply immersed in the early experiments into electric instrumentation. This incendiary performance captures Miles embracing a rock dynamic in his music that was more electric, more funky, more rhythmic, and simply more "out there" than anything that had…entire summary

This recording shows why Miles is a modern icon. A required musical experience.

Yes he always was looking for that sound, that new ideas, and the new talent,to go forward into new musical ground......."I'm always thinking about creating. My future starts when I wake up every morning... Every day I find something creative to do with my life." in an interview before the concert..No other musician has found and developed more new talent in he career then Miles..Stan Getz was 2nd for the same in that department, but the impact on MUSIC itself Miles rules there,as KING. "For me, music and life are all about style," Miles Davis. He was simply was Amazing to say the least, and his performance was out standing, strong and groundbreaking."Miles Rides the Voodoo Down" was my favorite, followed by "Spanish Key" out of 5 stars I give this performance 6 stars......

The best tunes for me was spanish key,and Miles rides the voodoo out.I love the groove and those deep bass lines give these songs funk and depth.I myself was a fan of miles from the Kind of blue sessions, but this music was interesting. He made such a switch from his jazz,to this fusion type funk.I know he was very influenced by Hendrix at this point and it showed in his more rock feel songs.Miles was truely in his own class, and with this line up of musicians backing him up ,I agree with flipp dulldee, that the bands he was backing must of felt intimidated by this legend

I was 19-year old in the Air Force, stationed at Westover AFB in Mass., and attended this concert. Miles Davis AND Santana on the same ticket!! What a concert and what great memories!!!

I was there. There was a steel pan band playing on the lawn in the afternoon, and the Voices of East Harlem opened the show. When Miles was announced, we ran across the lawn to actually see him, since it was too light for the video screen to work. My first exposure to Miles outside of Rolling Stone reviews. Set me on a life-long jouney.

Bartz' solo in It's About That Time is right on. What a groove to fly over! Then the bust out of Spanish Key?! How do they do it? My mind continues to be blown away with every new set I hear from Miles. I'm impressed with his creative energy, which appears boundless. Sadly, his body could not hold up much longer. Where is else is there evidence of such dynamic creative individualism this late in a modern artists career? He had done so much groundbreaking work up to this point; and to sail out with this mayhem is over the top. My Hero. Mike
