Concert Summary

After several years of forging his music into new directions and embracing electronic instrumentation and amplification, this was a fascinating time to catch Miles Davis in concert. He was enjoying a creative and commercial peak, and was playing before larger audiences than any other time in his career. On this particular tour, he opened for the Band at the Hollywood Bowl, and this show was recorded on the final night of a four-night run opening for Mandrillentire summary

I can't get over the bio saying the grateful dead and Jimi were influenced by Miles. There's nothing remotely focussed and cerebral about the grateful dead, and Miles was quoted for over a year, when asked what he was listening to, he said he had Jimi Hendrix on the turntable.

At least I think it was in May of 1971 and that Leon Russell was the headliner. I could be wrong . . .

I was at the May 7, 1971 concert; Davis was opening for Leon Russell, who we went to see/hear. We had not heard of Miles Davis and were unprepared for his type of music. It sounded like everyone in the band was tunning his instrument; we kept waiting for the music to begin.

We had gone to the Filmore early so as to be as close to the stage as possible. After awile, being so close, the volume of the music became too much so we retreated to the back of the room. I guess we just aren't jazz fans. I did buy Bitche's Brew and have tried to like this music, but I just don't. I'll take the Grateful Dead any day.

I USED TO SHOOT GIRL AND JUST WRITE MY ASS OFF WHILE LISTENING TO LIVE/EVIL OR PANGEA, WHICH IS THE ERA OF THIS. I HAVE SOME VIDEO FROM A FRIEND, WHO WORKED AT PBS, OF MILES WITH PETE COSEY JACK DEJOHNETTE> AIRTO MOREIRA> MTOMBE> AND CANT THANK OF WHITE BOY ON SAX WITH HEADBAND ALWAYS ON. I THINK ITS AT A SWISS JAZZ FESTIVAL BUT ITS KNARLY AS HELL. AS WELL AS FILMORE EAST 69. AND WEST FOR THAT MATTER>
