Concert Summary

Midnight Oil had been together 13 years and were already big stars in their native Australia when they signed with Columbia Records and came to the States to promote their album, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. With charismatic and highly intellectual singer Peter Garrett at the helm, Midnight Oil invaded the U.S. in 1984 amid widespread critical raves, a growing underground word-of-mouth buzz, and considerable airplay at college radio and MTV.

    however many live recordings you may hear from this band i've still yet to hear one that even come close to what they sounded like at the actual concert,hammersmith pally in 85 is still to this day the best gig i've ever seen in my life,so much intensity,passion and fury it was absolutely frightening to watch

    Well, the USSR never ran the world's economy into bankruptcy... The USSR had universal health care and education for its citizens too. Pure evil I know! I believe you'll find the song is about not automatically accepting American imperialism as being necessarily a "good thing". At least in the 80's you could protest the topic, nowadays you'd get a holiday at camp XRay for your troubles.
