Marilyn Manson didn't invent shock rock. Alice Cooper came before him with a vaudevillian approach to shock rock, and Ozzy Osbourne is famous for biting off the head of a live bat on stage decades earlier. In the early 1990s, a group of artists including Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, My Life With Thrill Kill Kult, Ministry, KMFDM and Rob Zombie used keyboards and industrial music to push shock rock into a new era. Explorations between good and evil or beauty and the grotesque ensued.
There were only five straitjackets commissioned by Bill Graham Presents for shock-rock cult favorite Marilyn Manson. Given to the band members before this January appearance at the Warfield, the straitjackets were dark grey in color and featured the concert particulars embroidered on the front and leather straps on the back.
This incredibly rare example is one of the original five jackets, and its excellent condition is the result of meticulous preservation in the BGP collection.
