Concert Summary

The initial classic lineup of the Mahavishnu Orchestra lasted less than three years and only released two studio albums and one live recording during this era, but these recordings had a profound effect, redefining the jazz/rock fusion movement. Guess I'm wrong - Wisconsin State University became part of the University of Wisconsin system in 1971. Albee Hall is correct.

These Mahavishnu shows are some of the best treasures unearthed by the Vault. Thanks guys! Note - the correct venue is Albee Hall, Wisconsin Sate University (University of Wisconsin is in Madison). This is my absolute favorite live music. Just amazing.

This is one band that should do a reunion. Come on Jan, bury the hatchet huh? (John attempted a reunion a while back but Jan said, "No."). I think John may have learned to share by now. At any rate, this was one band that could kick anyone's ass, anytime, anywhere. (And John, if Jan does reconsider, please use the tones represented here - forget that clean ass jazz spaz tone that you used with Chick recently). Seriously, your biggest fan (and critic),
    Rocker Rick

What a tremendous group! I had the honor of sitting in the front row at a performance at the old Guthrie Theater. I had seen Jerry Goodman with The Flock and followed John's work with Miles. I can still almost smell the incense as it trickled from the top of Jan Hammer's array of keyboards. Thanks for making these sets available to us!
