Concert Summary

This Mahavishnu Orchestra performance, recorded on the second night of a two-night stand at New York City's Avery Fisher Hall, captures one of the very last performances ever by the legendary original lineup. Although missing the beginning of the set, what is available here is a fascinating glimpse of the group at the tail end of their existence. I think it is often thought that this was the final gig by this original line up of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. However this is not the case. The next night (29th) they played the Masonic Auditorium in Detroit and then their final gig on December 31st,1973 at the Sport Arena in Toledo, Ohio. Now then WV - do you have these gigs for us??

Would WV be so kind as to unravel the total mess and mix up over the track listings and timings from this concert. I read: 1) You Know You Know; 2)straight into the keyboard solo from Awakening, followed by guitar solo and drum solo; 3) Hope; 4) Vital Transformation; 5) Dream; 6) I Wonder; 7) some of the beginning of Awakening??? GREAT gig so could we have it complete and in the right order please. Thank you.

You know people talk about Buddy Rich being the greatest drummer of all time, but I would have loved there to have been a drum battle between him and the guy you hear right here. Extraordinary!

It would be great to hear other people's opinions as to what are the most exciting MO concerts on here. Name your top three and why.

this last version of "dream" is so intense, John?s guitar crying those very high notes ! It is a pity that we hear only a fade out at the end during that unbelievable polyrhythmic riff which is a highlight for itself !

During the "Awakening", first 6 min. after tape change Jammer plays his "Full Moon Boogie". Unlike to his very good composition "Andrea" this piece have not the Mahavishnu soul - wasted time...
