Concert Summary

Lynyrd Skynyrd was performing in the United Kingdom on a tour promoting their third studio album, Nuthin' Fancy. The band was coming off two hugely successful albums, their debut, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd and 1974's Second Helping, and they had recently changed both their drummer (from Bob Berns to Artimus Pyle) and lost their original guitarists, Ed King. The changes had appeared to revitalize the band, which, although down to six pieces, played with more energy and passion than they had…entire summary

I left this off my previous post of a few minutes ago~the live concert from Wales that played on KBFH was exceedingly superb to the live record album by Skynyrd, "One More From The Road". Great concert at the Cardiff!!!!!

To ChuckC~I hope you see this post or someone will that can confirm my question. I listened to & recorded at the same time, the Skynyrd concert that played on the King Biscuit Flower Hour that was recorded in Wales. Can I get a date of the concert & date of airing on KBFH? Best of my memory, it aired on KBFH in early '76, may not be correct. My mistake, I loaned out, instead of me doing it, my recording for someone to make a copy for themselves. You're correct. I never got it back. I've been searching for years for a copy of this performance so that I may have a copy of my own again. Is the song list appearing above the same as what was played on KBFH? All help is appreciated!! Thanks.

The authentic King Biscuit CD that was originally supposed to be released in 1995 has "The Same Ole Blues". It seems this show here is missing that one.

Kenny57. I haven't seen a commercial copy in years. It was pressed and issued under the title of "Cardiff Peaches" (a reference to the Allmans "Eat A Peach"?) and had I known what it would be worth I would have purchased more than 1 copy at the time (although the store I purchased it from only had 2 copies at the time, at ?20 each - and the store, in Cardiff, no longer exists). The tracks on this site are pretty good and you only miss the three missing ones. The original Italian CD is not in my possession any longer (I have a copy) as the original is safely stored with the spool tape (again not in my possession). All I can suggest is you search the ether for "Cardiff Peaches".

Further to my earlier message. having listened to the tracks above these must be from the "missing" tape. I have a copy of the "Italian" produced CD (the sleeve notes state they sent a royalty cheque to the band to cover themselves legally - ha ha) which includes the three "missing" tracks and I know the private spool (I don't have it - to clear that one up) has only ever been played twice (and hasn't seen the light of day for 10 years, being in a box stored safely). For those anoraks out there the programme issued on the night still had Bob Burns listed as the drummer, Gary Rossington played the intro to T for Texas (with a better blues "feel" than Steve Gaines) and "Same Ole Blues" and "Simple Man" were played between "Gimme Three Steps" and "Whisky...". The M4 (freeway) didn't run into Cardiff in those days and two young women were allegedly given a lift by the band back to Newport (where the freeway started) 12 miles away. One has since passed away and the other has never spoken about the experience. The theatre was on old cinema and I sat up in the balcony in a direct line with the mike and mixing desk so had a terrific view and perfect sound - as far as sound can be perfect in an old cinema. I agree with bassmanlee in that nothing compares to the live sound but this is pretty damn good and is better than "One more from the road" - or am I biased? This was probably one of the best three gigs I ever saw.

I was there the night this was recorded. It was allegedly originally recorded to be broadcast to the US Forces in Europe but that never happened. Someone allegedly ran 3 jacklines from the mixing desk to reel to reel tape recorders. One tape ended up in Italy and was cleaned up so "T for Texas" appeared on a CD that was produced, one other tape ended up in a private collection and the third disappeared. The version of T for Texas was the standout track that night but doesn't appear here. The theatre no longer exists - neither does the support act (Sutherland Brothers and Quiver). This was probably the best of the three times I saw them as the guitar sound was cleaner and less muddy than the others (with Ed King). Great times - great band!

Doesn't get any better than Whiskey Rock A Roller. Great live version of one of their most underrated tunes.
