Concert Summary

After the remarkable commercial success of Lou Reed's 1972 Transformer album, which contained his biggest hit, "Walk On The Wild Side," he then recorded the dark and depressing Berlin album, which although now acknowledged as a classic, was initially met with extremely unfavorable reactions. Dinky....how out of control was Lou on this tour, he sounds quite together on the tape but we hear horror stories...especially from DJ Bob Harris!!! Thanks for your work here G (Manchester)

Nice memory lad, Lou had to deal with a Yorkshire man everyday and when I brought my mum to see Lou at the old Oval hall, he was very gracious and mum liked the show. This place was my old hang out in the Mojo Club days with the Stringfellows and I have always had wonderful shows there. Andy, you must have seen me mixing the show and I know you felt it in the balcony. You now can live that memory again and again thanks’ to Wolfgang’s Vault. Next time you are at City hall pop up to the Frog & Parrot and have a pint for me. Luv (|:-{Dinky Dawson

I remember the show being not quite as I expected. He came to town with this fearsome New Yawk bad-boy reputation and I foresaw fireworks with the 'go on then, impress me' paying-punters. I know that (from the stage) I was expecting Yank ignorance & apathy to the colloquial working-class Northern audience. I suspected the usual "Wally!!" crowd to be sneered at by the Lou of my 'newspaper' expectations. The reality was very different. Solid run-through of some of the best material of his career to date. Hardy a word said to the assembled masses down the front. I was on the 2nd tier, miles from the sweaty hoardes. It looked minimalist, stark & brilliant. Kickin' band too. I'd love to live that night again. Andy Smith, Sheffield, UK.

I went to this gig. I remember the band were great. Lou seemed very 'spaced out.' It was a very wet evening. Some swine stole my giant Lou reed poster. A long time ago.
