Concert Summary

After the remarkable commercial success of Lou Reed's 1972 Transformer album, which contained his biggest hit, "Walk On The Wild Side," he then recorded the dark and depressing Berlin album, which although now acknowledged as a classic, was initially met with extremely unfavorable reactions. I won free tickets from a local radio station in Toronto Canada to see Lou Reed and it was a great show, Alice Cooper came on stage to sing Walk on the wild side. Years later I met and became good friends with Whitey Glenn who played with Lou and Steve Hunter, I told him that I caught the show and what a great concert it was and asked him to sign a few albums for me,but we got to drunk every time it was supposed to happen. Oh well! maybe tomorrow? Tommy Rocker T.O. Canada Eh!

This tape is a revelation. I saw three of the RR Animal shows, September 1, 1973 in Lenox, the very first show, and then Rhode Island and Boston (12/19) in December of 1973 - Lenox was superb - but this show is excellent and shows what a dynamic and tremendous backing group this was. What a pity Lou didn't record a ton of albums with them.

This show seems the best of the tour with those of R'N'R Animmal and LR LIve. Don't you think?

......all these '73 Lou Reed shows are an education in how a great band can keep moving the music forward. Listening to Steve Hunter & Dick Wagner and the band transform Reed's stark compositions into melodic musical arrangements is a treat for the ears. If you pick a song and play that tune from each related concert in chronological order you can hear the evolution that culminated in the Rock-n-Roll Animal and Lou Reed Live albums that were recorded in NYC in December of '73. What a great sounding band!
