Concert Summary

Having first created a stunningly beautiful and perfectly flawed oeuvre with the Velvet Underground, in the 1970s Lou Reed embarked on a solo career. Following a widely overlooked first album that consisted of reworked versions of unreleased Velvet Underground outtakes and leftovers, Reed had his first taste of solo success with his 1972 Transformer album, which contained his biggest hit, "Walk On The Wild Side." The dark and depressing Berlin album followed, which although now acknowledged as a classic, was initially met with extremely unfavorable reactions and virtually…entire summary

All these Lou shows are wonderful to have-----BUT THERE MUST BE A VELVET UNDERGROUND SHOW OUT THERE SOMEWHERE!! I know that Wolfgang was not of fan of the whole heroin/whips/noise spectacle of the Exploding Plastic Inevitible shows at the Fillmore in 1966;so there are probably no VU shows in the VAULT. But, the Velvets playaed around alot from 1968-1970, and at all the usual places--Matrix, Avalon, Boston Tea Party etc. So there must be some more tapes out there. Besides the Quine stuff, I mean. VU, like the Dead, should have taped every single show they played.

For what it's worth, I'm male. Sounds like a couple of LR fans here are a bit over sensitive! Further listening sounds too me like the digital transfer may have been at to high of a level. There's really excessive distortion (clipping?) on several tracks, including Sweet Jane, Glory Of Love, & Vicious to name a few. NOT a knock on Reed (I'm a fan), just want to warn folks that the sound does leave a bit to be desired. I also bought the new flac of Glasgow 1973, having higher hopes for it.

Lou Reed played the Bottom Line dozens of times in the midto-late 70's. It was kind of his home field in a way. I saw him a few times then (in fact, I'm trying to figure out if I was at this show). Some performances were great, others just OK. I'd rate this one as probably above average for those shows. Those expecting a crisp, clear recording and for the band to sound like they did on vinyl won't get that from any Lou performance that I can recall (possible exception Rock & Roll Animal CD) What you do get here is high-energy, vintage Lou Reed. The acoustics at the Bottom Line weren't great, but this recording definitely has the authentic Bottom Line sound.

Don't berate Moo (as least SHE can spell!) and tell her "it's ok". Some people like music to be in tune, including me, and it's not too much to expect. If you happen to like it otherwise then that's your lookout, but obviously you have lower standards (plus a wish to breed complacency in musicians).

As good as live. And who ever said RnR had to be in tune? Moo must be having a bad day. RnR is about playing so close to the edge you can fall either way at anytime. If not what you like grab your britney and justin duets or get real funky with the crapenters or someting equaly "in tune". It's OK Moo. Just needed to point out for allot of these people just getting to the show was "in tune".

My bad for not playing the show before purchase (I don't blame WGV), but there are some sound quality issues (especially on Sweet Jane) & some issues with out of tune instruments.

I've heard quite a few of Lou's live recordings and seen him live, but this kicks ass.
