Concert Summary

After the remarkable commercial success of Lou Reed's 1972 album Transformer, which contained his biggest hit, "Walk On The Wild Side," he then recorded the dark and depressing Berlin album. While Berlin is now acknowledged as a classic, it was initially met with extremely unfavorable reactions. Nonetheless, Reed fully embraced the moment, deteriorating into alcohol and drug addiction and with David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust as a rough…entire summary

Killer show. What a find, kind of like a totally alternate Rock & Roll animal. The sound could be a bit better, there is some significant wow & flutter at times. I read that this was recorded direct to cassette in 1973 when decks were still pretty low quality, so the sound is pretty good under the circumstances.

I'm not crazy about the mix. The organ is way too hot. It does give it a different feel, tho. Interesting as a document of the beginning of the tour and how things evolved and progressed to the point where they recorded Rock n Roll Animal. RnRA was recorded at the end of the tour and it shows. Everything is tight as a drum and Reed sounds more comfortable in this setting.

I agree this is probably the best show I just wish Sweet Jane was also on the setlist. A welcome addition to the RNR Animal & Lou Reed Live albums from New York. I've played those records out so now I get to listen to Wagner & Hunter with a new freshness.

Best of the three UK shows (especially sound-wise). The Intro Jam is more often associated with Sweet Jane, so it is interesting to see it appear during this tour as a medley with Vicious. Also an interesting take on Sister Ray
