Concert Summary

This recording from late 1984, made for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, is taken from the band's first visit to Cincinnati. This show may have been the first time a lot of people had heard the band: in spite of their Grammy award for "Anselma" earlier that year (for Best Mexican-American Performance, one of the few awards Michael Jackson did not win), they would not achieve a great deal of widespread exposure until their work on La Bamba in 1987.

That said, they were by no means inexperienced. Hidalgo, Lozano, Perez and Rosas were high school friends and, after having played in…entire summary

Thanks for Larry Nager for providing the history of this show. Larry was a key influence in the Cincinnati music scene for over 20 years. You could always see him at the best shows with his mini notebook and smile!

Editing my previous post to correct the "which way to the main room" statement, which came from the King Biscuit Flower Hour crew, NOT Los Lobos.

Many thanks for releasing this great show! Almost as hot as the 12.07.1984 show at Canal Street Tavern, in Dayton. I've had a house soundboard recording of this Metro show for years, but it was missing We're Gonna Rock and most of I Got Loaded... nice to have it all now. A friend of a friend's band (Zero Gravity) opened that night in that tiny club. I'm told that when the Lobos crew arrived they asked "which way to the main room?" : C } MrPaulCaruso, are you certain of the 12.09.1984 date listed for this show? I've always had it as the 10th. There is a 12.08.1984 news article from The Cincinnati Post (which I supplied) on setlist.com (http://loslobos.setlist.com/1984setlists/12-10-84.html) that states "Los Lobos will perform Monday night at Metro..." 12.09.1984 was a Sunday. Just thought I'd ask, since we're talking history here : C } Thanks again!

Thanks Colton, we've fixed that up. This is a great show. Cheers!

This concert is early, a little raw (think bar band) and a lot of fun. They were great to see live at this time, especially in smaller venues.
