Concert Summary

Part of a wild Fillmore New Year's Eve bill that included country singer Dwight Yoakam, this saucy set by L.A. Latino superstars Los Lobos is a testament to how strong of a live performance the group had always given. Opening with the countdown to midnight and a blithe, Tex-Mex version of "Auld Lang Syne," they easily slide into "Will the Wolf Survive," the title track from the band's debut LP.

The show occurred just hours after it was reported that…entire summary

Long time fanatico of los guys and though they sound incredible on this tape, this band only gets better with time. And taking into account their busy touring schedule year over year, there is no excuse not to see and hear the best and hardest working North American band on tour. No stadiums, no rolling carnival of tour buses or spoiled rock posers. Just raw music. Man this band has payed their dues and then some. Honor them and give a gift to your ears and soul. Talent and class unmatched....

THESE CATS CAN PLAY.WITHOUT A DOUBT LOS LOBOS IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN MUSIC.THEY FALL INTO A GROOVE FROM THE OPENING NOTES AND TAKE OFF FROM THERE.LET ALONE THESE GUYS ARE WORLD CLASS MUSICIANS THEY ARE SOME OF THE FRIENDLIEST CAT'S I HAVE EVER MET.THEY HAVE NOT LET THEIR SUCCESS GO TO THEIR HEADS.THEY PLAY ALLKINDS OF MUSIC BUT THE PUT THEIR OWN FLAVOR IN IT WHICH IS BEYOND COOL.IT WAS GREAT WHEN THEY WOULD OPEN FOR THE GRATEFUL DEAD.MY 2 FAVORITE BANDS ON THE SAME STAGE.I SAW GARCIA SIT IN WITH THESE GUYS AT THE SWEETWATER IN 1989 THE NIGHT BEFORE THE AIDS BENEFIT IN OAKLAND AND THEY TORE IT UP JERRY PLAYING A BORROWED GIBSON GUITAR.WELL ENOUGH SAID,THESE GUY'S ARE FREAKIN' GREAT.

The Fillmore debut! one of the best times ive ever had, and the first of what evolved into a MexMas tradition. during Serenata Nortena we literally had 20 people dancing in a big circle. Ive been to a dozen more since then. arguably the grestest band in American recorded music. It should also be pointed out here that the band allows the recording of their shows, and permits trades and copies thru the Blank and Postage rule. Perhaps this site should take that into consideration and offer this 5 star performance to its members without charge.

Saw them in concert at the Beacon Theater in Passaic NJ the year How will the wolf survive became a hit,1985 I think. They were with Richard Thompson, and a group called The Cruzados. One of my favorite concerts. Los Lobos was great. Had everyone out of there seats danceing. Been a fan ever since.

One of my best friends on the planet coerced me to go see Los Lobos at Summerstages in Indy about eight years ago. I've been hooked since then. I was always a distant fan, but when you see these guys live, you will NEVER forget it! I've been fortune enough to go backstage and speak to them every show I've seen except the first one, when I "only" got to speak briefly with David. It's been a fantastic ride seeing other shows since then! Lobos rocks! Los Lonely Boys have a good thing going on as well. Saw them once and it was EXTREMELY impressive! But Lobos... just jaw-dropping; and I'm talking about less than a year ago. These gentlemen BRING IT, every time.. PERIOD! Go see them as soon as you can, or never forgive yourself later...

One of the best ever, no doubt. Saw them many times in the late eighties and throughout the nineties in the DFW area, dragged friends with me to see them. Just a great live and studio band, great albums, often joking on stage, smokin' live show, great set lists that were never the same. They were called The Greatest Unknown American Band by a well-known magazine once, and they are.

One of the best american bands out there. I've loved them since the 80's. And if you like these guys check out los lonely boys, talk about carrying on the legacy.

Met these guys backstage at the Windsor Blues festival, absolutely some of the most personable guys you'd want to meet. They spent a ton of time chatting with backstage people, in contrast the next night when Robert Cray shows up he demands that every area backstage was off-limits...to everyone...that is until the festival organizer told him to go fuck himself. Anyway, I digress...Los Lobos are a true class act. When Cesar Rojas found out it was my birthday, they insisted that we all go to a bar...for "shots of tequila"...which we did until 3 in the morning. Viva Los Lobos!!
