Specializing in interpretations of early 20th century popular music, singer and guitarist Leon Redbone first gained attention in Toronto in the mid-1970s. Refusing to divulge any information about his background or personal life, Redbone's intense desire to protect his privacy led to numerous outrageous rumors, fueling early press speculation that he was either comedian Andy Kaufman or Frank Zappa in disguise.     ya' should'a been there! leon redbone with tom waits, blue valentine(?) tour, waits headliner, redbone w/ very funky band including a tuba bass and tenor banjo player, raleigh nc, also leon at the now defunct "pier" in cameron village subway, also raleigh. solo performance at the pier. mid-70's ? ?

    I got to see him a year or so ago at a killer place in Redkey Indiana. It was perfect for the Tio. I grew up listening to him with my father and will see him as often as possible.

    I saw Leon circa 1975 when he opened for a Tom Waits solo show. Now THAT was a concert!

    I've loved Leon since the first time I saw him in 1883 in San Francisco, he opened for Robert Johnson... What a night!

    I recently saw Leon on SNL Season 1 DVDs. I wasn't around for the 70s, but man am I glad I love SNL. I only hope I get to see him someday.

    I absolutely LOVE Leon Redbone. I watched him on SNL and never thought that I would get to see him in person. But have seen him twice in Kansas. He is Great! What talent this man has...!! Sure hope he comes back this way.
