Concert Summary

Music industry insiders are still baffled as to why Kim Carnes did not become a huge, lasting international star. She had top management (Ken Kragen, when he had Kenny Rogers at his peak); a Top 10 duet with Rogers called "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer;" and she had written songs with husband Dave Ellingson for Rogers, Big Mama Thorton, and others. When her sixth album, 1981's Mistaken Identity, hit the top of the charts on the strength of her hit single "Bette Davis Eyes," most people thought she was on the way to superstardom. Bette Davis Eyes should have been the encore :(

This concert is missing some classics like Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer, Goodnight Moon, It Hurt's So Bad, What Am I Gonna Do, It's Not The Spotlight, You're A Part of Me and Everything Has Gotta Be Free. That would've been better if you omitted Dwayne, and Do You Love Her. Also, add Voyeur, Looker, and Undertow.

I was at this concert and was mesmerized by Kim's energy and stage presence. I never understood why she seemed to leave the public eye as quickly as she had arrived after receiving notoriety with "Bette Davis Eyes". She is a first-rate performer and a wonderful songwriter who deserves to thought of in the same vein as Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, and Joni Mitchell.
