Concert Summary

Of all the groundbreaking bands of the 1960s, few developed a repertoire more wide-ranging and eclectic than the Los Angeles-based group Kaleidoscope. Existing from 1966 to 1970, the group released four albums during those years, but the combination of non-existent label support, questionable management, and a repertoire that defied categorization, all contributed to a lack of commercial success. Kaleidoscope's albums never reached a wide listening audience and with the exception of early underground radio listeners and attendees of the group's live performances, Kaleidoscope remained…entire summary

Kaleidoscope was the best thing to come out of the sixties. I seem to remember a concert at Fillmore West. .. or was it just the acid. David Lindley's version of the Cuckcoo is the greatest piece of music ever. From Incredible Kaleidoscope. Mr Lindley is an unsung musical genius and still performing today.

I saw them in San Francisco at the Fillmore. They play in the middle of the auditorium and as they played a middle eastern song a belly dancer came out and did a dance to the music. It was the most amazing concert I had ever seen then and today.

I've never heard of this band but after listening to this, it reminded me of listening to Arlo Guthrie doing Alice's Restaurant. So much interesting music that I somehow missed.

the roots of David Lindley are impressive indeed. 'Taxim" is the kind of stuff Takoma Records should have been releasing along side of John fahey, it's in tat ballpark. Thanks for the fun listen. more, please!

oh Death! what a great live version. The terrors of LSD & Vietnam come home to roost. Much better than Country Joe & Fish (Vault MIA). After only hearing "Egyptian Gardens" compilations, I never thought of these guys as a live band. Need to hear more of 1968's Newport Folk Please post em if you got em!

All time cheesiest lyrics winner Kaleidoscope for Beacon's I Found Out: I found out without a doubt what its all about. And now I know in my soul just where to go. Fucking Classic! One of my favorite songs. Right there with Donald and the Delighters' Elephant Walk.
