There weren't too many front-women who could compare to the men back then...but here's one.

Judy is sheer beauty and and power here. Singing in a perfect key, right between her upper and lower ranges, she delivers the songsa filled with pathos and musical coloration are simply breath-taking. The frightening intro to "Sons of" builds very effectively into the lullaby;I wish it were on the lp. "The Dealer" and "Rainbow Design", two the songs that I have always thought best showcase JC's magical tone, are both done so well- with a few great changes thrown in. "The Hostage" shows that amazing tough side of Judy's early years that's too often missing from her post-early 70s work. This is the Judy I worship, none of that shrill boring stuff she got stuck in for a while.
