Concert Summary

A week after the release of their fourth album, Infinity, which ended up going platinum, Journey took the stage at the Palladium in New York. Boasting a new, vivacious singer named Steve Perry, Journey was well on their way to stardom as they rock a polished, radio-ready sound and commercially viable singles.

Jumpstarting their 42-minute show with "Feeling That Way," the band cruises through a seven-song set, one that includes the sorts of flashy keyboard, drum, and guitar solos that the following decade would became representative of. A telling peek into the direction that…entire summary

yeah know them well as Fumious with Ross and George. They always had a good sound. This was like mastering the dials for max $$ success. I remember talking to Ross in Hawaii in 78-79 or somewhere in there. He said he was out of it after 1 mill in the bank but you know how that goes. Steve hung out with Tim Story for a bit and turned the corner. You can get into Tim Story and his thing with big timers. He is OK. Got allot of people to stay alive. Ross is still very cool guy. He won't tell you but he is still Ross from East Bay. Aloha Ross. Hit it hard man!

Greg Rollie was Fantastic with the band. And Steve Perry also. But when Rollie left they lost the unique harmony demention that they had. Not to mention Greg is one of the best key players. And Neal is one of my Fav Guitarists. with Ross and Steve they were a force.

If Journey promises a tour covering the older material with an intermission. Neal should deliver the goods. Boston 30th anniversary show sold out chocked full of gems like Of a Lifetime. sryupy pop fans can show for the second set.NON COMMERCIAL FANS CAN LEAVE AT INTERMISSION. (EVERYBDY SHOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY)BUT BY THE TIME NEAL HIT WALLINGFORD CT CHEVROLET VENUE IT WAS MORE LIKE CC DEVILLE AND RICKY ROCKET POISONING DIE HARD JOURNEY FANS AS SOON AS THE CURTAIN WENT UP. NEAL MUST BE GETTING TIRED LIKE JOHNNY WINTER. A GREG ROLLIE BAND SOUNCHECK WOULD KICK SCHON'S *&^$%

I get sad and depressed with Neal Schon's current setlist and material compared with even the badass bluesy intro to Your'e on your own. This song was my 78 high school grad tune. I am not a Steve Perry knocker either, I love his co-vocals with Rollie on NEXT. Its a shame Neal has taken the Johnny Winter "blame the fans" road. I can't believe Schon gets away with advertising a 30th anniverary tour. 1st set supposedly featuring early fan material: Of a lifetime, Kahuotek, maybe Hustler, mystery mtn I'm gonna leave you. etc no not even pirhanna blues or Livin to do walkin away/edge but 2 dirty shitty dozen from deen and the hoarse falsetto ampex dukes.

I just saw journey with new singer at Darien Lake 29 Aug. They were great! If you get the chance don't miss them. New singer sounds alot like Steve Perry. Saw Def Leppard, Billy Idol and AC/DC within last year and Journey blew them all away. Yes...there is only 1 Steve Perry but this new guy is great. They were great!

Merriweather Post Pavilion in May '79 - BLEW me away. Instant fan. I was 16. 4th row. Neil with the 'fro, Black Les Paul Custom, Gibson acoustic on the stand... Steve Smith's Wood Grain Sonor kit (which sold on EBAY maybe a year ago), Gregg Rolie on the White Grand piano, what's-his-name on the wood grain Peavey Bass, and Steve Perry frontin'. Man what a gig. Sweet opened up. Remember that band? Little Willy? Love is like Oxygen? That was a trip in itself... Y'know, Steve Perry proved his musical prowess that night for the first time to me when he got up on the drum riser and choked the crash cymbals at the beginning of La-Do-Day.. Takes a ton of talent to do that... Then when that cat opened up his voice it was like, M A N, what a refreshing blast of cool on a hot steaming spring evening. Listening to La-Do-Day on this set I can tell he's on the riser choking the cymbals here... Great trip back in time, this.
