Concert Summary

There have been quite a few high profile events to commemorate the legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival, but one of the most interesting occurred when many of the original musicians converged in Long Island's Parr Meadows in Brookhaven, NY to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Unlike later events, this was a true 10-year reunion for many of the musicians who played the 1969 festival. Among others, the audience heard performances by the likes of Richie Havens, John Sebastian, Stephen Stills, Leslie West, Jorma Kaukonen, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, and the Rick Danko/Paul Butterfield Band. WHAT A MAGNIFICANT VERSION OF STRANGER. GOT HIM TO DO IT BY RQUEST IN BOSTON @ 1979 WITH GUEST BASSIST TOMMY SHANNON. SOMETIMES JOHNNY GETS LAZY WITH DOING SHITTY COVERS AND KNOCKS THE COLUMBIA BLUE SKY PERIOD, WHATS WRONG WITH WITH THE "REAL BLUES" OF FLOYD RADFORD AND JOHNNY JAMMIN ON SWEET PAPA JOHN. FOR THAT MATTER ITS MY OWN FAULT WITH RICK DERRINGER I CAN REMEMBER TOO MANY NIGHTS SEEING HIM CRAP OUT HIGHWAY 61. WHEN HE SHOULD BEEN GIVING US THE FEIRCE COME ON IN MY KITCHEN

saw him in 87 at the palace in hollywood, was such a huge fan. But Remember Him looking Down At his Wristwatch So Many times During The Set It Completely Turned Me off To the Music. He Rocked But Left a bad Impression On Me , Here It is 22 Years later And Im Still Kinda Pissed!

    >>>"I was a Jimi Hendrix groupie, he was a Johnny Winter groupie" That's the truth. Well, we know from interviews that JW was a huge Hendrix fan, but Jimi was a big fan of his, as well. He used to always jam with Johnny at clubs like The Scene. Whatever happened to musicians jamming? Play a big show, then show up very late at a club and jam to the wee hours. The so-called guitar heroes of today don't do that. I guess they don't want to bruise their egos ;>)

Aw, well, Johnny Winter's wife/manager cut him off. I guess she knows what is best for him? These old guys do need their rest and they will go on and on unless someone reins them in. The creator of Green Arrow was at a comic convention. I was the only one at his booth and his wife was putting everything away and I asked him to sign a vintage Green Lantern comic book for me. His wife told me he needed his rest. I suppose he did, since he looked like he was about to pass out and die. Oh, well. you get their music, or in my case you get their comics, what more do you need, really?

I know what you're saying SxTMinMan. I paid $300 for a ticket and backstage pass to see Johnny at a blues festival last year. After waiting a long time with some other fans, he eventually signed autographs for a few people in front of me but stopped at me. I was the only person left, and his people wouldn't let him sign my pass! By comparison, Li'l Ed and the Imperials took several minutes talking to me, and posing for pictures. and just being nice guys. If Li'l Ed comes around again, I will definitely pay to see him again. I won't spend more money on Johnny, though. I already spent a ton of money buying his cds, concert tickets and dvd's. I'm definitely not spending more; he obviously doesn't appreciate it at all. In his prime, though, nobody was ever a better guitarist!

Dear Anonymous: So you were lucky enough to get his autograph? I saw JW about 3 years ago in Farmingdale NY, got to "meet" him in the dressing room after the show where he refused to sign a vintage Johnny Winter And appearance poster and my Les Paul along side of Mick Taylor's and Scotty Moore's respective signatures. Yes, I was nice about my request and basically had to "beg" him to sign. His wife/manager(?) a total load BTW nastily came over and said he wasn't signing ANYTHING because it will "end up on Ebay tomorrow". Yeah like I'd give up a 30 year old Les Paul 'cos he signed it. What a jackass. Many years ago I really admired JW but his show sucked except for the one song he closed with playing slide. His skills have really diminished since the And and Captured Live days and to be treated so poorly and rudely on top of a lousy show was inexcuseable.

Jon Paris is most definitely playing the harp on a rack. I've seen that band many times and Jon is a good friend of mine and he plays bass and harp at the same time with ease. These days you can see Jon tear it up most Monday nights at B.B. Kings on 42nd St in NYC from 8 - 1 AM in Lucille's Lounge there and it's free! Check out Jon's site at www.jonparis.com. Johnny is also a good friend of mine and he may be a wee bit slower these days (and who isn't at 64?), but he still tears it up like nobody's bidnizz. He does NOT have diabetes and his health is getting better every day. He was on bad drugs for a while, but he's off everything and has been for a few years. No pills, no drink, no NOTHIN'! I think he'll be around for a long time to come.
