Concert Summary

Following a nearly two-year leave of absence from recording and touring, a time devoted to rehabilitation from his well-publicized heroin and alcohol addictions, Johnny Winter was poised to return to the musical world in 1973. Now healthier and stronger than he had been in many years, Winter entered the studio and with the help and encouragement of his longtime cohort, Rick Derringer, delivered Still Alive And Well, serving notice that he had indeed survived. I agree, Black Oak--whenever people start naming off the great ones--Hendrix, Clapton, Allman, Page, Beck--they always forget Johnny. And on any given night, he might have been the best of ALL of them!

Not to be greedy, but I was wondering if you had any of the classic Johnny Winter And stuff when Johnny and Rick Derringer ripped it up on twin lead guitars. God, I played that Johnny Winter And Live album to DEATH!

Come on, I know they played the Fillmore--look in the back of the closet behind the wooden tennis racket. In that cardboard box. No, way at the bottom--is that a tape? No? Well, it's gotta be around here somewhere!

I saw Johnny Winter in Vancouver B.C. in 1971 (1972?). He opened for the John Mayal Blues band. It was no contest ............ he absolutely stole the show. Great shit! What energy! Fabulous guitar playing. The guy is certainly under-rated over the years to say the least!!!

the set ends with 2 Jagger/Richards and 2 Chuck Berry penned tunes, but Johnny owns them! What a barn burner show! Not a ballad for miles, and so what? His guitar just smokes and vocally he is in tip top shape. This IS Johnny Winter! thanks again WGV peeps!

Great stuff. The drummer on this is awesome. Of course Johnny and Randy Joe are as well. Simply awesome. Bands today have either forgotten how or never knew how to make real music. Strip all the production away and just leave the music. Simple, raw and amazing.
