  • Anonymous Wednesday, May 16, 2012 2:50 pm I saw him on this tour playing free in London's Hyde park. He had thousands of stoned hippies eating out of his hand. Eric Burdon & War played the same day and then went to do a gig in the city at which Jimi Hendrix joined them for what would turn out to be his last public performance. Some hours later he was dead. I went from elation to despair in that 24 hours! I agree that John Sebastian is a consumate songwriter!

  • Anonymous Thursday, January 12, 2012 7:34 pm Learned to play guitar and performed by buying this cassette and comping all his tunes and still playing him today-A GREAT Musical talent!

  • Joel Sanoff Sunday, October 23, 2011 9:29 am Thank God I was alive and in my late teens and early 20s when the Spoonful and John Sebastian were in their prime. His songs are utterly beautiful, and to this day, Darlin' Be Home Soon remains as hauntingly beautiful as it did the first time I heard it on the soundtrack to Youre A Big Boy Now.
  • equus dementia Friday, October 21, 2011 2:03 pm my favorite memory of john sebastian is when he was on the ed sullivan show...standing in relative darkness, he was performing darling be home soon when in about the middle of the song, the lights come on unveiling a HUGE orchestra!! the power of the strings and horns behind that song TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY!! -a very powerful moment. (probably for john, too!!) you can see that on the ed sullivan dvds that are now out, worth watching!! JBS is a GREAT singer, performer AND writer!! whose work i LOVED, (and still do love) when with the loving spoonful!! -that is another GREAT collection!!
  • gtrfreek Friday, October 21, 2011 9:38 am I've always loved this song - the Joe Cocker version is excellent also. At the risk of sounding like a total geezer, every one of the so-called new wave of acoustic bands like Fleet Foxes (and their fans) should listen to that. Then go home and practice. A lot. And try to write better songs.
  • Daniel68 Tuesday, September 27, 2011 5:15 am Wecome back, JBS. This is great!
  • Anonymous Saturday, August 27, 2011 12:29 pm Ahh the memories.. Outstanding performance and songwriting.. Brings me back...
  • Anonymous Sunday, August 14, 2011 11:40 am Percussion too! He's completely engaging but Why must the camera make a rising pan 2x near the end...why?
  • Anonymous Monday, July 25, 2011 7:43 pm Wonderful talent...
  • bluesbo Monday, July 25, 2011 11:23 am What an incredible talent: songwriting, singing, performing. Who performing today is in the same league?
  • JoeMystery Sunday, July 24, 2011 6:12 am Wow, what can you say? John Sebastian is the kind of guy you would love to have at your house party. He would just entertain everyone and barely break a sweat. He is doing it here in front of live concert audience. Uncanny, you can barely hear the crowd as he plays Younger girl. They are spellbound like I am watching this. Not easy to do this type of intimate performance. Wonder what it would be like today in the current environment where people are inundated with stimuli. How many cell phones would have sounded. Amazing. How many hits did this guy have with the Lovin' Spoonful? How many people under 40 would even know who the hell he is although they might have heard him on the radio singing Summer in the City. Just goes to show you how hard it is maintain an identity in the music industry. There are the Beatles, Who and Doors, right. John Sebastian played harmonica on Roadhouse Blues, studio version. Man, what a great and undervalued performer.
  • Scott Riggi Friday, July 22, 2011 6:24 am This performance is a great example of how special John Sebastian is as a true American artist.
