Having recently dissolved his partnership with his very successful 1960s band, the Lovin' Spoonful, John Sebastian's solo career received an unexpected kick-start in August of 1969 at the legendary Woodstock Festival. Sebastian had been living in a tent on the Grateful Dead's ranch at the time, writing new songs that would comprise his first solo album and as is obvious from any photos of him from that era, learning all about tie-dying techniques from the Dead's family and friends. 1970 found Sebastian traveling back and forth across the United States, performing solo acoustic at festivals…entire summary

Saw John play at my college (SUNY Brockport) gym in '74 or '75. This show reminds me of that. Very mellow, and put forth a great vibe. The audience loved him!

Jerry Edwards: I saw John Sebastion in May 1970 at Michigan State. He appeared with Chicago and the Jefferson Airplane among others. This was a very stressful time during protests against the Cambodian incursion. Kent State had just blown up down the road. He was so thoughtful and mellow and really brought the crowd together (left and right, straight or gay). Really amazing.

Saw John open for Vanilla Fudge in 1970 at Fairligh Dickenson University in New Jersey. He played the Zephyr sitting on a stool. Vanilla Fudge sucked.

I forgot what a great singer and songwriter this guy is; I always think of his killer harmonica skills. This concert is a total delight. I wish he and Cass Elliot would have recorded an album together. So lovable, such a natural and jam packed full of talent!

Saw John perform in a Hermosa Beach, CA.(87-88) bar on a Sunday afternoon, it was great and so is this recording. Got to go to his dressing room where we talked about Woodstock. He is a very kind soul and a great artist, I learned the harmonica cause of John and Neil Young.

WOW! How magical was John on this very interesting night. His creative impulses are the true expression of his life at the time, the essence of his creative spirit sparkles in his voice. It really reunites me with a beautiful memory.
