Concert Summary

Like Eric Clapton and Peter Green before him, it was inevitable that lead guitarist Mick Taylor would eventually conclude his tenure with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. With Mayall's blessing and recommendation, Taylor became a Rolling Stone in June of 1969. Bluesbreaker's drummer, Colin Allen, would also depart the band at this point to join Stone The Crows, leaving Mayall and bass player Steve Thompson as the only remaining members. These events would trigger a major shift in Mayall's music, beginning with the formation of a new group. Although blistering electric guitarists had been a…entire summary

Perfectly named album! I grew up on Mayall and California is still my favorite song (which blows me away since I'm not really into acoustical nearly as much as electric) Almond and Mark were perfect choices once he chose to go in this direction, Mayall's the nuts

It would be great to hear the Blues-Jazz Fusion concert- recorded in Boston. It's on CD now but was really hard to get for a long time.

He was even better at the Hunter College concert. Smaller venue more details 41 years later it's still a classic Turning Point

This is the "Turning Point" album(?) I love it, but disappointed it's they're the same tracks I've had for four decades.

Sad to learn that Johnny Almond died in 2009 of cancer. Loved his work with both this group and Mark-Almond.

John Mayall was the first concert I went to in Manchester UK in 1970, support act was Matching Mole who didn't get to play because of a mix up with the instruments that were set up on stage. I also remember the concert because a guy was recording it in the audiance and I accidently sat on his microphone.....

What a fabulous concert! Mayall was the best in putting British musicians together to make great music. This is a prequel to the Mark Almond group and their album that followed, which was remarkable too.
