Concert Summary

Few bandleaders in the 1960s had the vision or ability to constantly change musicians and still create intriguing music every step of the way. John Mayall was one. Like Miles Davis and Frank Zappa, Mayall had a visionary knack for recognizing talent, and more importantly, how to assemble and arrange this talent into powerful musical units. In many cases, Mayall was the catalyst for these younger musicians discovering their own voices, gaining confidence and defining their sound. This inevitably led to musicians striking out on their own, often to much greater success.

Super concert but then John Mayall is and always will be the Man.
Must disagree with javit111 as I think this is one of his better bands but the very best was this line up plus Walter Trout. Very little available of this 1984 to 89 period what a shame

I saw this line up at the now defunct Town and Country Club in London in 1990 - from memory they played a very similar set. I enjoyed every minute of it. I saw Mayall and his latest band a couple of months ago in New Zealand - still going strong and just as enjoyable with a great band. Long may he play the blues.

Nice but slightly dated review--Buddy Whittington anchored the guitar chair quite handily for Mayall for 15 years from 1993 till 2008. I think he was a better player than Coco, but then Mayall never had any "worst" bands.... Sorry that the new band is missing Denver on this tour.

Nice review, but can I point out that, despite the perfect tense (and pluperfect) which make it read like an obituary or tribute, John Mayall is still alive, and definitely kicking at 76!?

This guy has been around since I was a teenager and he can always come through with blues and jazz like the trooper he is. Go man!

not mayall at his best, actually the worst band he had. but he is still nice to listen to.
