Satriani studied with pianist Lennie Tristano and guitarist Billy Bauer, and later settled in the Bay Area in 1978. He played with the Greg Kihn Band, before being asked in early 1988 to be lead guitarist for Mick…entire summary

I was in line for this show, had tix, got nailed for my flask! Later met Satch and Stu and Jonathan, .. regarding Joe, I've never heard ANYONE with a more masterful concept of the lyrical side of Guitar leads pure emotion and technique put to use in the pursuit, of the chill up the spine! SUrfing Remains one of the top 5 instrumental guitar albums of all time-Id only rate Wired or Blow by Blow higher.ANd hats off to his G3 idea for bringing out all types of players from Fripp to Yngwie Malsteen. Only part of his resume missing is his role in Mick Jaggers solo tour of Japan for Shes the Boss.

Joe Satriani is an incredible guitarist and I can't thank you enough for sharing this wonderful concert.

It's silly comparing these two great guitarists- anyway Satch would win. Great vintage stuff. Saw him Halloween and he has Jeff Campitelli on drums. Smokin band. Thanks for sharing this.

i can`t understand why everybody makes over jeff beck. i have seen both of them in concert, everything beck played was slow and i was just not into it.the satriani show gave me the chills,my ears tell me what i like not hype.

This is a typical set until Flying comes out. I've seen Joe several times in the Bay Area and with G3 a couple times. He makes it seem SO easy. Instrumental rock/shred is not for everyone, but Satch is a leader in the space. That said, The Fish claims Beck is the King and Jeff certainly has continued to set the pace for everyone for being inventive, creative, and current. I wish Joe would team up with a more "dynamic" drummer like Neil Pert. And do more acoustic/electric numbers. Joe remains hot sh*t. :)

Joe is the Prince and Jeff Beck is still the King.
