Concert Summary

1969 had been a monumentally successful year for Joe Cocker, who, along with the Grease Band, had engaged in a grueling tour schedule in support of his first two albums. Initially formed in 1966, the Grease Band had evolved over the previous three years and Cocker's touring lineup featured Henry McCullough on lead guitar, Chris Stainton on keyboards (a future mainstay of Eric Clapton's touring bands), rhythm guitarist Neal Hubbard and bassist Alan Spenner (both of whom would join the British soul combo Kokomo), and future Fairport Convention drummer Bruce Rowland.

I've had this show for many years and except for the lack of vocals on the first song, this is really a fine show, plus the fact that there is next to nothing from Cocker & The Grease Band available. Another thing; Henry McCollugh is NOT the guy who joined Wings! The guy in Wings was Jimmy McCollough who was a child prodigy and was in Thunderclap Newman. Both great guitarists, but sadly Jimmy died of a heroin OD sometime in the 70's or early 80's. IMO he would have made an ideal replacement for the Stones when Mick Taylor quit. Who did the fact finding for the review here????.

    Where is the music?

  • crlinder | Monday, September 06, 2010 | 10:56 am

I have to agree with the comments so far. Please either find a way to correct Joe in the mix or simply remove this. I'm pretty tolerant of live recordings from this era, but this is poor enough to be left out of the Vault's offerings.

I think the stoners from 1969 who flubbed the mix on this have become the equally inept politicians of today.

Band sounds great! But as everyone else said...Joe is mixed right out of the whole thing. Great piece if you're into Karaoke!!! John Belushi would have loved this!

They need to turn up the vocals.
