Concert Summary

This show from Philly's Tower Theater represented a rebirth for Jethro Tull. Although most of the band had been together for several years (since the onset of the 1980s most of guys in this line-up were in place), the band was playing with renewed vigor propelled by the success of "Steel Monkey," a rocker that brought them considerable radio airplay once again. In fact, it was the recording of "Steel Monkey" that got Tull the Grammy for Best Heavy Metal recording in 1987, beating out …entire summary

though this is 'past prime tull' it sounds positively rocking compared to today's standards; and though whilst Ian & Co. still sound wonderful today you'd be hard-pressed to hear Martin's (or Florian's, depending) guitar at that level of squalling distortion. Ian's flute still has a lot of lower stomach muscle in it. Truth is his voice is much stronger on this recording than of modern ones as well. Crest of a Knave really did introduce a lot of new fans to tull and i personally think it fine for them to have the grammy. next should be a rnr hall of fame, no?

The absolute consumate performer. The first non-Australian act ever to perform in the Sydney Opera House. And for good reason......... The 'Thick as A Brick' tour circa 1972 remains a Sydney, Australia, Hordern Pavillion legend............

Killer! I first saw them in 1987 in St. Paul, I was 15 years old and BLOWN AWAY! Tull is my favorite band before and ever since. I've seen them 8 times total now and am glad to have a copy(^; of a show from the first tour I saw them on!

Hey Mr. Anonymous, you couldn't have seen Mick Abrahams with Tull in the U.S. as he never performed here with Tull. His last concert with Tull was Nov 30, 1968 in London, a couple of months before Tull's first show in the U.S.

Saw them in Fillmore East with original lineup including Mick Abrahams. They were tighter and louder than the Who and had a maniac drummer to boot. Saw the Who like 2 weeks before doing I Can See For Miles. Was instant fan forever. Love 'em both. Tull rules. Sometimes no one else will do.

I have been to every Tull/Ian Anderson Tour since my first show in 1976 at Shea Stadium. There was only one exception along the way. Anyway this era does indeed standout and it is pretty cool that this show is included here. This albumn brought back some older fans like my older brother and of course attracted a new generation of Tull fans. No matter what the line up has been over the years they are all consitent in that Anderson picks musicians that are extraordinary and have never disapointed. This band has always been a head above the rest and there is no better show to listen to as an example of that! Thanks Rob W
