Concert Summary

During the summer of 1970, Bill Graham presented an extraordinary series of concerts at Tanglewood, the renowned classical music venue located in the scenic Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. At the time, presenting rock music in a classical venue was a surprising and precarious step to take. To many, hearing The Fillmore and Tanglewood in the same sentence equated to "when worlds collide." Much like his approach at the Fillmores, Graham's "The Fillmore at Tanglewood" series presented diverse handpicked triple bills, but with the added advantage of a beautiful open-air venue and…entire summary

Outstanding a 21:00 minute version of Dharma For One... Jethro Tull truly one of the greatest performers of the 70's without a doubt...

NDB, this was BEFORE the Isle of Wight, which was August. So it's Tanglewood July; Isle of Wight August. Carnegie Hall November. Same band on all three. And you can buy both Isle of Wight and Carnegie Hall now, too. So==cool, right?

As a postscript: Why the Who never sought him Clive Bunker) out as a replacement for the sadly lamented, untimely departed Mr. Moon, I'll never know. Barriemore Barlow would have also been a good choice, as well as Carl Palmer, Bill Bruford, Alan White, Russ Kunkel, Joe Vitale ... Kenny Jones? C'mon, now.

Jethro Tull has had their share of great drummers; their music demands it. Clive was the best of them, almost Moon-like.

This was my very first concert. I drove in from Guilderland, NY, to hear it. Jethro Tull, It's A Beautiful Day, and The Who; it doesn't get much better than that. What a hoot to get to relive it. I was 19 then, and I'm 60 now; I guess I'll go to my grave loving this stuff.

Awesome drum solo on Dharma for One. Keith Moon has got nothing on Clive Bunker. And that's saying a lot, as Keith is the best that ever was.

Amazing - I'd seen them in 69 at the Boston Tea Party and remember the dismay of the Tanglewood purists - though many more bands came through the venue (saw Robert Palmer, Weather Report). Billy Graham, we miss you.
