Concert Summary

In 1982, Jethro Tull pushed their Tolkein fantasy rock to the logical extreme by releasing Broadsword and the Beast (which boasted an album cover bedecked with runes) and dressing up in Viking outfits and touring with a lavish show featuring a pirate ship fit for Spinal Tap. It was feared that Ian Anderson's merry assemblage of audio pranksters had run out of ideas.

But in 1984 Jethro Tull hung up their English costumes of yore and adopted a cyberpunk stance. They revamped their sound with synthesizers and turned out Under Wraps to the scorn of critics and fans alike.…entire summary

I have to agree with Maherto about the keyboards, the only weak point in an otherwise brilliant show which sounds superb. I hated the 80s at the time and that synth sound is an unwelcome reminder......Thatcher's Britain, yuppies, unenployment and bad, bad keyboard dominated music.

A very underrated album and tour. Many thanks for posting this show (and the previous night) in their entireity! Here's hoping the LA or St. Louis 'A' shows find their way here in complete form!!

Not Jethro at its best incarnation. vetesse sometimes sounds like Wakeman at his worst... But Anderson keeps rocking.

Broadsword and the Beast and Under Wraps were actually among Tull's three best records (the other being Heavy Horses). Yes, Under Wraps was marred by horrendous machine drums, mixed too far to the front, and with too little bass, but the songs were among Anderson's best. Great to hear the band stretching itself in this concert to do these songs justice and in doing so expand its regular concert repertoire, which was already getting staid even then (let alone today). Just too bad that the critics didn't get it... that, combined with Anderson's voice trouble, was the end of Tull as a genuinely innovative creative force. Bizarrely, the critics began liking Tull after that... tells you how little they knew, and know...

What a fantastic concert. I have been a fan since 1971 and have seen Tull live 38 times in my lifetime. I have nothing but the best of memories from the members of this band, old and new.

Ottimo concerto. Indescrivibile la magia che Ian Andersonn riesce a creare intorno a se, rendendo la band, unica ed originale, nel firmamento della musica pop mondiale.
