Concert Summary

One could conceive this remarkable Winterland performance as being, essentially, a sort of missing link between the sound of the original Jefferson Airplane and that of their subsequent reincarnation, Jefferson Starship. This was the group's second tour since the permanent departures of Kaukonen and Casady, who had begun playing with Hot Tuna full time. Peteentire summary

I wrote the comment below after only hearing a few songs. I think Grace may have been a bit too drunk. As the show goes on, she gets pretty badly off key.

Sound could be better, but surprisingly good performance. I don't own any live JS from this tour, so will likely buy it on the special tomorrow.

I saw Jefferson Starship a week after this show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on November 30, 1974. Very similar energy and set list (except for the Marty Balin appearance). It was an unbelievable concert and if that show is also in Wolfgang's Vault...please, please, please post it, too.

Spring tour had Peter Kaukonen on bass, but no Pete Sears.Grace sang the Theme from the movie Manhole and David sang Harp Tree Lament.Paul threw in a stanza from Diana. Those were most of the differences.

Yeah, this is Jefferson Starship's *second* tour. The Spring 1974 tour contained no songs from Dragonfly; on that tour, they played stuff from Blows, Sunfighter, Manhole, and Baron Von Tollbooth, plus some Airplane tunes.

Wolfgang's needs to doublecheck their facts in these write-ups, a lot of them are full of misinformation amidst the hyperbole...

I'd love to see something from the Spring '74 turn up here; that tour had a very Airplane-like vibe, and the bootlegs I've heard are of low fidelity...

Like every other show here, the difference in fidelity in the paid for 192 kbps stream is AWESOME! Viva VaultA!

Saw this tour in Denver, the highlight of the show for me was "Better Lying Down", a ballsy blues number with Pete Sears playing piano for Gracie's wicked vocals. All in all, a very good show. Had the great pleasure of seeing Pete Sears again with his own band at least 25 years later in a small club in Boulder CO. An excellent show, I had the opportunity to chat with Pete during breaks, which of course was a great treat. An excellent musician, but an even better person. If you see his album the Long Haul, buy it, you'll love it.

Saw the last Airplane show at Winterland in 72 which was awesome. Came out for this one too and it was alot of fun. Great time for live music in SF !
