Jefferson Starship's first tour was Spring 1974, some months prior to recording Dragonfly in July (it was released in September 1974). The lineup was as Dr. Otis states it, and for many of the shows they began their set with the entire Blows Against The Empire Suite (side 2, for us oldtimers). After a few warmup dates in San Francisco in March, they played some Eastern dates in March and April, with a few stops in the Midwest on the way home. They played Academy of Music on April 2 and 3, 1974.

Pre-Dragon Fly concert at NYC's Academy of Music in 1973(exact memories are a touch blurry) featured Craig Chaquico (who played w/. opening band Jack Traylor & Steelwind) and Peter Kaukonen (bass),w/. Airplaners David Freiberg, Papa John and John Barbata. The show opened w/. arazor-sharp red beam of light on Grace's face (looking oh so much like Liz Taylor's doppelganger) as she launched into "Sunrise".Mind-blower to be certain,as the band played the entire 'Blows...' suite. Other material included a Papa John song;a song from 'Manhole'("Better lyin' Down"),David's "Harp Tree Lament";"Diana" from the SUNFIGHTER album and a couple of Airplane songs to close out the show ('Wooden Ships').The encore was 'Volunteers'and they were gone. Can anyone find a live gig of the ORIGINAL Jefferson Starship (Lp issued 1970)BLOWS AGAINST THE EMPIRE Kantner and Slick DID play this music out, along with some of the Sunfighter tunes. Late '73 to early '74 is my guess when two of my "older" friends saw them.
