Concert Summary

1967 was a whirlwind year for Jefferson Airplane. "Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit" were monumental hits and the Surrealistic Pillow album had penetrated way beyond San Francisco, earning the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Grace Slick was becoming an icon in the media and the band was a staple of the rock press, especially Rolling Stone, which launched that Fall. This first taste of substantial success and the…entire summary

Well Kantner is singing Fat Angel for one; also Paul is playing his 12-string while Jack is playing the more sitar-sounding rhythm guitar. Fat Angel is the only Airplane song that Marty plays bass on I think.

Phoenix and Pooneil would have made a great side to an lp

DougT: I believe Balin was playing stand up bass when he was with the folk group, the Town Criers, prior to JA.

Interesting show. Very rough around the edges sonically and playing-wise but very casual, playful and intimate, like having JA play in your living room. STL almost sounds like the Kinks 'You Really Got Me' starting out.

The Airplane always was and still is one of my favorite bands. This outing has its moments, but any studio session is better than any live stuff,of theirs, they were " very loose" live and some were better than others, this one's pretty good though, actually ,their RCA album " Bless Its Pointed Little Head" is probably the best live Ive heard of them. The record co. and us, we got lucky with that one, great stuff .

Very cool show. Worth it just for the funky "Other Side of This Life". Just picture yourself in a small club watching the Airplane and they're just playing the hell out of everything. Bathing at Baxters is my favorite Airplane album (yes, they're still albums to me) and this show has most of the tunes from it. Thanks Wolfgangs Vault. This is a real treat. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Since When does Balin play Bass? Are there other instances of this? What was Kantner doing during Fat Angel?

WOW, I don't have this and it's essential for a true fan of the band. My 1st ever concert, 2 months after my 16 birthday was Jefferson Airplane, in Kansas City, Mo. (05_09_1969). It was a great show, and I was a big fan at the time. I would have loved to have been one of the few in attendence at this one. Thanks for making this available in FLAC, I hate paying for MP3.
