Concert Summary

The three-day run at Fillmore Auditorium toward the end of November 1966 is one of the most fascinating collections of early live Jefferson Airplane recordings for a number of reasons. The five shows that occurred during this run, on a bill that also featured the James Cotton Blues Band and Moby Grape, capture Jefferson Airplane literally days after completing most of the sessions for their breakthrough album, Surrealistic Pillow. Grace Slick had recently replaced Signe Anderson as the female voice of the band and that transition, as well as a wealth of magnificent new material, was…entire summary

I've been listening to all of the JA shows currently in the vault in chronological order from the beginning, and this is the best show I've heard so far. Everybody is in great voice and Jorma's leads are especially inspired. Sober night for everybody I guess! ;-) And this is the earliest live version of Today, and it's beautiful.

Awesome band....I heard them live in 1969.

I'll tell you what, if someone would volunteer to throw my computer into the bathtub, filled with me, a hunting knife, and green foamy bubbles, while White Rabbit (or any other song from this recording!) is at full volume, I can at least say I have gone out in style. Thanks, Jefferson Airplane, Bill Graham, and all others involved in making this recording, and to Wolfgang's Vault, for making this recording available! I fear the day when Wolfgang's Vault will announce that the last live recording from its archives of Jefferson Airplane will be posted.

This was truly an amazing time in JA history. Fat Angel with Grace is better than ever here. I must say, I still like Go to Her with Signe better than this although there is an incredible energy level here. Thank you so much for the well written and insightful review. Whoever you are, you really know your JA!

The vocals on this performance really are amazing. The overall musical quality is excellent. Oh to be able to relive some of those days! The music is still astonishing over 40 years later.
