Concert Summary

This concert was given as part of a benefit for San Francisco's Mime Troupe and was the very first Bill Graham produced concert in San Francisco. These tracks are possibly the oldest live Jefferson Airplane recordings in existence.

Included on this recording are three tracks from a reasonably good line feed recording, supplied by Bill Graham during a guest appearance on KSAN…entire summary

ARE THERE MORE AIRPLANE CONCERTS PRE SEPT '66??

It is just fabulous that this early Airplane recording exists, as the summary states for the first concert Bill Graham produced. I wonder, does anything else, perhaps John Handy's performance or the readings by Ferlinghetti or Ginsberg, exist as well?

cant believe for a band so early in their inception sound so well rehearsed and mature but having a great loose vibe to it all.

Just a quick note ... Sopwith Camel's first hit was "Hello Hello" ... the Camel and my band at the time shared the same manager, Yuri Toropov (old diggers will remember him). Jack had just joined the band, and Skip preceeded him, as I recall ... so many years ago ...

Good point, Mr. Blue. The change has been made and will be up soon. Thanks, and cheers!

Jerry Peloquin had already quit/been kicked out by this time. Bassist Bob Harvey was soon to follow, to be replaced by Jack Casady. The very fact that Casady is on bass at this time means that the drummer is Skip Spence, not Peloquin. This is the only live recording featuring Spence on drums - I wish there were more. He was one of a kind.

What the hell! Marty's voice sounds incredible for a recording that is is a mobile unit, albeit killer sound for the time. If you compare G. Slick and the Great Society live LP, this bootleg is the shits! BTW, I have 7 bootlegs of the Airplane, on vinyl. Thay all suck.

Surely, there must exist some live shows from early 1966! Please search the vault again, dig out a few more gems!
