Concert Summary

One couldn't ask for more from a live vintage James Taylor recording. Not only are the recordings themselves excellent quality, but these two benefit concerts capture Taylor right smack dab in the middle of the Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon LP recording sessions. James mentions that the proceeds from these benefits would be directed toward American Indian related charities. This is 1970, awhile before "Native American" became politically correct.

As with the late show, this early set begins solo…entire summary

I've seen JT 26 times, beginning in 1979. I'm from Chicago, and he didn't travel much to the midwest until them. This concert, and all of Wolfgangs' concerts are a treasure to me. And as a guitar player I can hear the suddle difference, better, then the later years after a couple of hand injuries. He's still great, obviously, but it's the little things I really appreciate about these early '70s concerts. Great stuff. And w/Lee and Russ, and Danny of course...THE JT band, so great. Recently Russ has toured w/JT, and it really means a lot. All of his drummers and musicians are great. But Russ really has JT down, as he did Fogelburg and others. Really enjoyable concert, and I've seen a ton of JT shows.

Too bad...there seems to be a glitch at 2:48 on Sweet Baby James that disrupts this beautiful recording.

This show was just what the doctor ordered.I just felt like kicking back ,and this was the perfect backdrop music for just doing that.J.T. was humourious, and at home with the audience, which was nice to hear.A few years later he would be admitted to McClains Hospital in massachusetts for depression and heroin addiction. He got a reputation for being somewhat crazy as years went on,but it was good to hear him here in good spirits.Im from Boston, and J.T.lived down in Marthas Vinyard,so he became a sort of local boy.I never saw him live, only on dvd,but he is truly one of the great american song writers.

JT is to his my what Peter Seeger and Woody Gutherie were to there's as far as folk singer/songwriters go. But JT had a far better voice. What's amazin is how great he sounds today.

Great early JT concert from a truly tallented singer-songwriter. James' music is from the "heart" and so many of his tunes I can truly relate too. Not only a great musician but also a very liberal and conscientious humal being; the world is surely a better place with him in it. Thanks JT for all the years of beautiful music and for all your philanthropic work (supporting/endorsing President Obama and other liberal/progressive candidate's for public office; getting involved in environmental causes & so many other's (over many yrs.)to improve the quality of life for all the earth's population). Not only do I sicerely appreciate your music but I also have an immense amount of respect for you as a person.

Though I've never seen him live, his gentle, humorous songs have taken up residence in my head. 'Cause "Seeet Baby James" came out when I was 16, that one is still my fave (I need to get a copy of the Apple disc, but the songs are of the same cloth as SBJ.) The next few albums are very good, too. These early JT recordings are outstanding. It is a so fine that these concerts were preserved. Thanks a lot. Have you noticed that James Taylor's voice is so less for wear these almost 40 years later? I think he must just not have wailed. McCartney's voice is alas, shot. Dylan's even moreso. Thanks! Is James Taylor our Frank Sinatra?
