Concert Summary

The jazz police had a field day with the 1969 Newport Jazz Festival, which marked George Wein's blatant capitulation to the burgeoning rock market. While the usual names like Dave Brubeck, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Phil Woods, Charles Mingus and Anita O'Day were on hand to represent the jazz contingent, a whole host of arena rock bands were booked for the annual summer bash in Rhode Island. exceptionally good GodFather performance! I saw/heard The Man at The Apollo in Harlem in '64 & '65. Outrageous! No comparison. So this show put me right back into the top balcony as we watched/dug The Man doing his magic. Thank you brother...keep these goodies coming!
    Peace...
    Rock on...

this is GREAT stuff!! much much better then the '69 live Augusta, Georgia material from the "Sex Machine" album. no audience overdubbing no reverb just a real geniune live recording of Soul Brother Number One with his classic '60s band!! excellent sound! great live versions of "Give it Up Turnit Loose", "The Popcorn","Licking Stick", and of course his current smash hit of the day "Mother Popcorn" is the best i've heard yet. its a tragedy theres no footage of JB from this concert. thank u very very much for making this available to the public!
