Concert Summary

Jack Bruce has always been an adventurous musician and a supreme innovator. Whether he is the greatest electric bass player of all time is open to debate, but his influence on the course of the instrument and its role within modern music cannot be denied. A multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and composer who has worked extensively in the context of jazz, blues, and rock 'n' roll, Bruce has always pushed himself into uncharted waters, refusing to be pinned down to any one genre. Rooted not on only in jazz and the blues, Bruce also studied the classical works of Schubert and Bach,…entire summary

Just gone back and reconnected with Jack's playing and music.
As a bassplayer, he was my first idol.
This show blew me away. (And they say Clapton was God?)
The man is on his own level. Great stuff.
Cream Live in Oakland 1968, is insane also, they never played better.
And jack's singing, over the top.

The drumming on 'Spirit' is extraordnarily impressive by any standard. In fact it's totally amazing.

Jack Bruce, a musician's bassist - he achieved stardom among people with an ear for players with incredible talent and passion for their craft. Always exciting to hear him play. And, you could put him in anyone's band and he jelled like a pro's pro. Always dug his lyrics, back to Pete Brown and Cream - going for different. Always an interesting listen. Saw him w/ EC and Ginger at MSG a few years ago - man, he stole the show. EC took too many solos, Ginger might have been thinking about his polo team, but Jack was on and held the whole thing together. AND played harmonica.

For the dude that commented on the hot Bottom Line show with Bruce, Cobham, Clempson and Sancious there is a CD of the WNEW broadcast that exists... I know because I bought it online a few years back but it's missing the encore featuring N.S.U. I was at the show the night before and the next night WNEW broadcast the performance which was rockin' and drenched in fusion napalm. Sancious' guitar break during "Theme From An Imaginary Western" (Guitarist Clempson moved to bass and Bruce manned the keyboards) is one of the most passionate and deep solos I've ever heard. Just an amazing concert by four masters at the top of their game.
