Rolling Stone magazine, founded in San Francisco in 1967, is the most famous music periodical in the world. Initially reporting on the hippie counterculture, by the 1970s, Rolling Stone made its mark for political coverage as well with the likes of "gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson's submissions and many other prominent writers.
