Concert Summary

Following iconic blues guitarist Albert King and proceeding Edgar Winter's White Trash in their prime was certainly no easy task, but this set finds the J. Geils Band quite capable of rising to the occasion. According to Bill Graham's autobiography, this group was among his favorite bands ever presented at Fillmore East and this set captures them performing at a raging ferocity level few bands could match.

The adrenalin level is obvious from the opening "Sno-Cone" and remains hot and volatile through the entire set. After continuing with the original number "Wait," the band tears up…entire summary

It's only fitting that J Geils Band were one of the headline acts of the final concert at the Fillmore East. A group of friends and I were at their first appearance at the Fillmore East, I recall that it was around February 20, 1971. They were the lead-in to Black Sabbath. After a forgettable set by Sir Lord Baltimore, the J Giels Band took the stage. To make a long story short, the entire audinece was blown away. We couldn't get enough of the band. After at least 3 encores, we wanted more. The emcee walked on stage and announced "Don't ask for what you can't have, Black Sabbath is next". After experiencing the energy and drive of Geils, the Sabbath set was a loud and boring let down. After 39 years, that is still the best live concert experience I've had the good fortune to attend. Thanks to my old buddy Pete for talking me into it!

OK check it out..saw the J.Geils Band 1973 in LA, I was 13 yeah. And then about 40 times in between all over the country. So quick chase to 2009 and going to see them reunited in CT for New Years! What is wrong with these cats at the R&R hall of Fame. JGB should have been in there already before many!

bricktour...the dude in the audience that shouts out WHIPPING POST is a friend of mine...big freakin dude, no wonder his voice carried over so loudly (!;) such great days, esp when one is only about 15 at the time. My only loss was that I never saw ginger baker & clapton...dammint but lots of concerts at Jersey City were free if ya didn't pay for a ticket, we'd just hang out outside...wonderful days, the cops would swoop down and we just climbed the trees for a better view === wonderfall days they was...amazing no body got kilt.
