Concert Summary

Following iconic blues guitarist Albert King and proceeding Edgar Winter's White Trash in their prime was certainly no easy task, but this set finds the J. Geils Band quite capable of rising to the occasion. According to Bill Graham's autobiography, this group was among his favorite bands ever presented at Fillmore East and this set captures them performing at a raging ferocity level few bands could match.

The adrenalin level is obvious from the opening "Sno-Cone" and remains hot and volatile through the entire set. After continuing with the original number "Wait," the band tears up…entire summary

Saw the Geils Band in Phoenix 197...., they were backup band to Peter Frampton. Frampton had to play in the smoking ruins. My date was pissed, she came to see Frampton, who was just an afterthougt.

J.Geils fired up to maximum heat you wouldn't believe - even in such a huge space. I saw them there circa 1975 and they sounded exactly like this. Except they'd do some fine tight improv solos, esp harp & FlyingV. The crowd was contributing a whole lotta noise too - we just weren't miked! It was one of those wild trips, with a carful of kids speeding from Massachusetts down the Manhattan avenues in time for the show. A Motown fan, a metal fan, an arena-rock fan, all dubious about what there'd be to like ... and we all loved every second of it without reservation. After the show we drove to D.C., making it by breakfast, just on the sheer adrenaline. I still grin with delight just remembering it!

i saw them in 1970 in Boston they opened for "Johnny Winter And" i was 15 and my life changed, They came out and played "Sno Cone" then Peter came out for the second song slippin and sliddin,, they played the entire frist LP... I felt that the second lp "Morning After" was a rushed deal.. They then realized what they needed to do to make some money and that is become more pop.. Even though they laid it down like nobody's buisness I think that first LP was where their talent rose, The were Greasers back then and by the second/thrid LP they turned.

Peace, Sean in Roslindale {PS} Johnny Winter was good too !

Man listen to this. These guys were the real deal. I was 13 and saw them. Blew me away. 1973. I went on to work in the music biz, traveled the country and some other countries to see bands. Still to this day no one comes close to the JGB. Meet them many times. Frickin cool and nice as could be. It's about the music. Oh come on..JGB should be in the R&R hall of fame. Peter is the man and still is. Saw them again recently for the 40th time on one of their reunions. Peter is still putting out good music. So under rated as a band. Thx for posting all these great shows!!!

man, they were this hot ALL the time! in western mass we got to see them on a regular basis back then, to the point that we felt like they were a local band (which was kinda true). there were constant gigs and free shows - and they never failed to blow a place away. and they were really nice guys, all about the music and no bs attitude. i have to thank them for helping me have a great time as a teenager. and now Peter Wolf's solo albums are incredible. gota love it...

Love it...."First I Look at the Purse". An incredible band to see live. And Magic Dick was a monster on harmonica...

Anyone that does not like this has probably died already, just doesnt know it. Foot stomping, ass shaking, plain ol high octane RnB. Great early document at the drive they have...pushing. Try keeping up with these guys.....
