Concert Summary

Of all the synth-pop artists to emerge from the early '80s, Howard Jones was among the most talented and most successful. Born in Southampton, U.K., raised in Canada, and transplanted back to London in his late teens, Jones cut his teeth on progressive rock music, playing in a band called Warrior and citing groups like ELP and Yes as his primary influences.

By the time the '70s came to an end. Jones was deeply into the emerging early digital keyboard technology. He eventually became a session player, and while he…entire summary

Quite possibly my all time favorite Howard Jones song! What a positive message in this song. We're a homeschool family and this could be our anthem!

I saw Howard back in probably '88 or so... great show. The drummer played pads and changed drum sounds a lot. He also stood while he played... pretty cool to watch. I would have loved to have seen him during his early one man band days. I had the same drum machine he used for this concert... the Emu Drumulater. I read he used two of them so that he'd have enough memory without having to re-load during the set! Fun to hear such familiar sounds under such great songs. I love this web site.

Howard's vocal technique was dodgy at times on this performance, but an interview that was conducted during the original US television airing of the show reveals that he was actually terrified that the equipment was going to malfunction during the performance, since it was going out live on British television. However, this concert is a wonderful gem from the peak of Howard's career. The setlist is awesome, as are the instrumental performances. Howard truly is a virtuoso. You can check out the video version of this concert and others on YouTube.

Thanks for the review. I have always appreciated Howard Jones's music. This is a great recording and you're right- the crowd is loving it. I wish he would've played Pearl in a Shell though. It'll go on my faves list.

A really wonderful concert from one of the greats. Howard engages the audience while performing some very contemporary versions of tracks from his great albums of the time. With several encores, by all accounts, he never patronises the audience and you can tell that both he and they enjoy the concert. Filmed live by the BBC (this version is in audio form only) for transmission at a later date, this concert is one which goes to prove that Howard's music is timeless and his performance both on keyboard and with vocals is most entertaining. This, like later concerts have proved that Howard really cares about giving a great show and the audience loves him and his songs. For anyone who was there this would be a timeless record of a good time, if they have not heard (or seen) it already. And I, for one, appreciate the great sound quality and entertainment that this recording provides. Having not yet seen Howard perform live in person (I have via DVDs) the recording of this concert is a real treat for both old fans (like myself) and new fans alike. Well worth listening to and spending some quality time with. I would like to thank you for putting this on so that people can hear it and have awarded it 5 stars as it well deserves it. Thank you.
