Concert Summary

The second set of Hot Tuna's December 30th performance at the Fillmore West contained more familiar songs than the first set. There were plenty of gospel-country/blues like "I'll Be All Right Someday," "Death Don't Have No Mercy" and "Another Man Done Gone" mixed in with classics including "I Know You Rider," "Rock Me Baby," "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed And Burning" and "I See The Light." Kaukonen and Casady keep their singing dynamic enough to move the pace along, despite playing two shows back to back.

Ahh Good Times! Although by 1988, I was already a well seasoned "Tuna Head" from the slew of shows starting in 86'. This show was my First to see them at the Fillmore! It was the off night for the Dead's New Years shows. The Energy for this show was palpable and what a tease to have Paul Kantner and Grace Slick sitting up on the private balcony to the left, over looking the stage. They never came down though =(. If memory serves me right Jack got really stoned during the intermission and Jorma seemed pissed which made for some awkard moments, but they were quickly back into the set in Full Force! Hot Tuna accoustic has fueled my soul ever since I was fortunate enough to see a string of their shows starting in the spring of 86. If you can get a hold of any shows from the "Reunion Tour" of 86! Do it! It is Hot Tuna in one of their many Finest Hours! Tuna Cow

I was not at this concert but for those of us who love acoustic blues there is not a better band or setting for a Hot Tuna concert. Keep Play'in Jorma and Jack.
