Concert Summary

Daryl Hall and John Oates were riding high at the time they taped a series of shows for the King Biscuit Flower Hour on their 1976-1977 "Beauty on Backstreet" tour. The group was still getting the attendance residuals of "Sara Smile" (its huge hit from 1974), but was also filling theaters because of newer hits, such as "Rich Girl" and "Room To Breathe" (which had not been a single hit, but was a steady FM airplay winner, nonetheless).

Many of the album tracks from the duo's last few records are represented here. Those songs such as: "Can't Stop the Music," "Do What You Want Be What…entire summary

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center (or SPAC as we call it in upstate New York) is a great venue to see concerts (an outdoor ampitheater set-up) Saw the Police there last year on their major tour.

I agree with Ike...Many reviews on here are jaded and offer opinions that are completely unnecessary and offensive to fans of the tunes. Whose to say which songs "weren't great"? Give us the concert info but don't tell how bad one of someone's favorites bands or tunes are. Unless you're gonna sign your name to the reviews. Many H&O fans prefer the earlier years to the "big hit" years.

Who writes these summaries? What exactly makes these songs sound "dated" when a Smokey tune doesn't? And who says the "dated" ones weren't good songs? Idiot. I can't stand writers who insist upon presenting opinions as facts. "Dated" is a derogatory term used almost exclusively by people who talk a lot about music but have only a limited understanding of it.

I saw this tour as a junior in high school. They played Blossom Music Center which is an outdoor venue located about 30 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. The year was 1977 and Kenny Loggins opened up for Hall and Oates that night. He was touring his Celebrate Me Home Album and was coming off the break up with Messina. I wish Hall and Oates would consider doing these old great songs in concert today. They've Abandoned some great material here. Is It A Star, You're Much Too Soon, Can't Stop The Music, Camelia, have so much soul. Hall and Oates are at their peak here. I did enjoy their more commercial hits but these songs that are on this tour are treasured versions.....

Daryl & John on their way up. Very clear audio allowing us to hear what a great voice he has. How did "Had I Known You Better Then" not get into the setlist. Surprising that She's Gone & Sara Smile were not the encores.

I agree with HYTAG8, Sara Smile is a classic, as is She's Gone, great versions of both here.
