Concert Summary

Because of their hit record status, Hall & Oates was able to assemble an all-star backup band by the time they launched their '77 tour. Guitarist Caleb Quaye and drummer Roger Pope had been with Elton John; bassist Kenny Passarelli had been in Joe Walsh's band; and the other side players, Charles DeChant and David Kent, were among the most in-demand studio musicians of the time.

The Hall & Oates backing bands went through a lot of turnover in the 70's but this incarnation was quite good. It would only get better as the decade wore on when G.E. Smith came on board as lead guitarist in 1979 & when bass player Tom T-Bone Wolk & drummer Mickey Curry joined in 1981. That band was probably the best & remained intact until H&O took an extended break in late 1985. T-Bone & Charlie are still in the band, Mickey Curry did session work on the 2003 Do It For Love album & G.E> joined them for encores at a 2007 San Francisco show which included "Family Man", "Out of Touch" & You've Lost That Loving Feeling". Todd Sharp was a 17 year old guitar prodigy when H&O discovered him.......In an early British TV performance they had him grow a beard & wear a hat to look older!

Wow. I hadn't realized that Elton's rhythm section from the 'Caribou' and 'Rock of the Westies' era albums moved on with Hall and Oates. That explains why Hall and Oates has such a powerhouse sound.

Just listen to that fabulous vocal blend. Its no wonder they ended up doing a record with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick of the Temptations. Add in the great band and you have some really great sh#t here! They don't make 'em like this anymore.
