Concert Summary

GTR came together in 1986 at the very end of what most historians will probably call "the era of the super group." Just as Crosby, Stills, & Nash and Emerson, Lake, & Palmer had each formed from the core of three already established acts, GTR (a commonly used abbreviation used by soundmen to mark the guitar input on a mixing console) jelled when two of England's best known axemen decided it was time to re-invent the concept of the guitar-driven pop band.

GTR didn't stay together very long—only one year and one album with 1986's GTR. Nevertheless, the group managed to have a number 14…entire summary

Obviously the 2 people who said the drums were too loud are either guitar players or people who think the guitars should always be the loudest in the mix. 99% of the time they are. The two guitarist could definately be higher in the mix, as could the bass.I don't sweat the small details of the "sound quality' and just appreciate the fact we get to hear this blast from the past at all !

I remember the review of the first GTR album in Musician magazine, It went. GTR, SHT. I laughed my ass off.

The official "King Biscuit Presents" album is from this same concert, not an earlier show in February as stated. King Biscuit GTR broadcast were all from this 19-Jul-1986 date too. Interesting to hear how the raw mix compares with the KB radio post production here but it would be really good to hear those two unreleased recordings mentioned. The live show was more exciting than the album; the two guitar styles, somewhat jarring at first, began to mesh nicely as the tour progressed. I was particularly happy to hear Pennants, my favourite Steve Howe solo song.

This concert brings back memories. When listening I can clearly remember Hackett and Howe on the stage at the Tower Theatre In Upper Darby. Like The Firm, so much potential and so much expectation. Damn shame they couldn't make it work out.

(Man oh man is this eighties' sounding!) After a quick listen, it seems the medley on track 6 is: Spectral Mornings/After The Ordeal/In That Quiet Earth/I Know What I Like. And i can't believe I'm saying this, but damn those drums are too loud--louder than the rest of the band, yikes! (But complete concerts are always appreciated!)
