Concert Summary

The last official line-up of the Grateful Dead is featured in this show, the first of two nights at the Zenith Theater in Paris, France. The Dead had not often performed in Paris, so when they came for their 1990 World Tour, it was a special event. This performance only contains one, albeit a very long, song: The 1971 classic "Uncle John's Band."

Originally recorded for the seminal Workingman's Dead album, the song is among the best examples of country rock from that era. Here it is merged with an extensive drum solo from Bill Kruetzmann and Mickey Hart. To get a better idea…entire summary

this tour of Europe turned out to be the last visit to our shores, boy am i glad i clocked all three nights at Wembley. For me the second night was the strongest, being halloween we were treated to a "werewolves".Jerry croaked his way through much of it.Musicianship fist rate throughout across the three nights.I think by the end of the third show {the last night of the tour]Jerry sounded tired rumour had it they'd all caught colds. The good old British weather!!

hey again, patkelley. Sounds like you're right about this line-up including Brent Mydland, but the tapes and documentation we have don't offer any answers to where or when this actually was recorded. We're going to leave it as is for now, and if anyone can help out, we'd truly appreciate it. Thanks for listening. Dopeburger.

thanks, patkelley, we're looking into it and should hopefully have it figured out by next week.

The date on this is wrong. Although they did play at the Zenith on this date, and they did play Uncle J's, this version has Brent Mydland playing, and he had been dead for a few months by this point. Furthermore, the Uncle J's from 10/28/90 comes out of Estimated, and this one obviously comes out of Playin.
