Concert Summary

Opening with the Dixie Cups 1963 Creole classic, "Iko Iko," the Grateful Dead log in with yet another great show, this coming after the band had seen its most commercial success with the hit "Touch Of Gray," which garnered MTV exposure for the band as well as a new, younger legion of fans. This was the first of three nights when the band performed at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California in 1988.

After the fun of "Iko Iko," the band gets down to business. "Walking Blues" leads into a Dead revision of the Lloyd Price 1950s classics, "Stagger Lee," proving the band's…entire summary

    I just listened to this show, and the sound quality was fantastic...crystal clear. The vocals were prominent, which is not always the case with Dead shows. A stellar concert! Thanks, WV.

    Whoever is writing the intro review from wolfgang's vault....hand off the torch to anyone else, please. Let It Grow is a 12 minute "Mexicali flavored tale" sung by Weir??? Hardly!!

    youre right I meant branford who definitely played in Oakland I think New Years in 90's.Jerry & drummers were both into MIDI-a sound gimmick that triggers other instrument samples for a bit.

    scrapmetal, Jerry was running his guitar through a synthesizer in those days, so a sax sound was certainly possible. I don't think Branford (not Wynton) played with them until 1989 or 90

    If you heard sax it was probably WYnton Marsalis who guested on numerous shows from 88-90.Or Clarence Clemons who toured with JGB during this time period,too.
