I am amazed to find this in Wolfgang's Vault - It said Raceway Park but I didn't realize it was Englishtown. I was there. What a blast. The Dead had speakers interspersed in the crowd so the sound was killer no matter where you were. What a blast - this is where I had my epiphany and became a Deadhead. It wasn't so much the music as the "vibe" that came out of that crowd. No protests, no fights, no arguments, just euphoria over some upbeat tunes.

high, i really liked this show. i was lucky to be working with the ambiance engineers. we drove to the back gate and got our passes and tee shirt. It was so stinkin' hot we could only find relief in the ice truck. there was a u-haul 20' box truck filled with 4'x8' sheets of ice. one of my responsibilities included de-veining 100 lbs of shrimp (the biting flies were all around me.) the only thing that i found that helped was washing hands in lemon juice. oww i am not sure which was worse.
nrps were great as usual. the marshal tucker band were a different story; during the day i took my breaks on top of the containers that corralled the concert. the people outside the corral were throwing bottles over us and came down on the crowd. i helped by taking the injured to the medics. by the time evening rolled around they were being called the marshal fucker band. we were suppose to sleep that night in their dressing room since they would be gone. after they left we went into their trailer and there was vomit everywhere. the assumption being they ate dinner and did some heroin. i couldn't believe it. especially since i had to work in asbury park for johnny winter the next morning. caramel and i had to shop for the show and be set up for the stage crew's breakfast before 6am. i did not have to work during the grateful dead show. it was fantastic! so, every time you see the stage crew remember that any kind of work is not particularly glamorous.

i really like the "He's Gone" from that day, the mix here, Keith was very low, where i was in the crowd, it was really really nice.. playing off/with Jerry, just beatifully. Had the Dick's Picks for this and sound was a lot better.
But to work and hear this streaming, is very nice. Agree, the best 'Not Fade" i've ever experienced.

Was there and remember it being magical. Long hike to the Racetrack and have no memory of leaving.

10 October 1976 lame and sub-par????? I'm amazed that you could think that, but then everybody has their opinion. To my mind it's one of the best shows in a year of lovely music. However, I've never heard this Englishtown set. If you say it's better than 10-10-76 then it has to be worth checking out.

A supurp concert thruout, especially after hearing the lame sub-par 10-10-76 perfromance before it.
