this grateful dead era gives me goosebumps.I never saw mountains of the live.the key to fully understand this band, in my opinion, is the live performance .how can you describe a live dead concert to someone whose never been there?just listen to the tapes.listen,listen,listen.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, the Dead. A very unique and unforgettable cosmic concert experience. Truly a wide-ranging collection of Dead Heads, in the Universe, and at every Concert.
Live Dead became my favorite album, during an April 1973 sojourn to Ann Arbor, Michigan from Athens, Ohio.
Ashley, Siggy and Fox, with Garcia (Dale DePompeii) in Garcia's 1967 Ford Torino convertible. It was an 8-track recording and it looped for hundreds of miles.
We had an ounce of bud, two thumbs of blonde lebanese, a quarter ounce of soda and a handful of trips, it was dark and we were wearing sunglasses. HIT IT!!!

The Dead were really very unrehearsed with their sets. Live Dead, however, was recorded right around this time. A peak time for the band and really the end of this particular phase.

I was 16 in 69 and expanding my mind in the UK. The Dead and all of the West Coast bands of that era were a huge influence and musical guiding light to me at the time. This era Dead is so evocative of many good memories? This recording sounds very close to the original WB vinyl Live Dead recording, is it the same, or were the Dead really very rehearsed with the sets?

    Pretty Good!
This presentation of Mountains of the Moon could be seen as Grateful Dead giving Fairport Convention real competition in creating beautifully melodic music in an approximately Anglo-Celtic folk style.
Particularly melodic or lyrical versions of all the compositions featured here (even Feedback).
Garcia and Weir wrote very good tunes, as did Lesh once or twice. Perhaps here they are emphasising the virtues of strong melodic lines, both vocal and instrumental, that would soon propel them to country-rock. Or is it just the pinot noir I'm sipping as I listen that enhances the melodic qualities?
